The SeaSuite was designed by Mark Philbrook to fill a gap in the boat rental market. He knew there were people who’d want to experience being on the water but lacked the skills to charter a boat. He therefore came up with the Fixed Base Bareboat Charter concept where guests would charter a boat and it would not leave the dock. He designed the SeaSuite to fill this market and over the next 2 years he and his business partner Craig Toby built the boat. Launched in April of 2019, it was an instant success! It received nothing but 5 star reviews from all the Airbnb guests who stayed aboard at the Port Sidney Marina on Vancouver Island. They were thrilled with the opportunity to experience life on the water and marveled at the unique concept and attention to detail.
Where the SeaSuite really shines is inside. Large windows let the view cascade into an open concept interior. A queen size walk around bed is up front with a picture window to watch the sunset. A full galley takes a central position while the aft is a dinette surrounded by more widows.
A full size shower (3’x3′) is the centerpiece of the washroom (head). A Separate waterless toilet and a bathroom sink are nearby.
The atmosphere inside is light and airy with a 7′ headroom. Warm LED lighting is abundant and dimmable to set the right mood. Details such as reading lights, wine rack and retractable bed sideboards add to the onboard experience. Impeccable craftsmanship, stylish, European feel, luxurious, spacious and cozy are just a few of the descriptors lifted from the Airbnb reviews.
Outside there is a side deck that is 12″ above the waterline, allowing easy access into dinghies, kayaks or paddle boards. An optional BBQ is fixed to the stern rail. Upstairs there is a large deck area that is great for relaxing, entertaining or simply taking in the view.
The SeaSuite is first and foremost a boat. Though unconventional in its appearance it is very seaworthy and boasts superior initial stability. This is a great benefit to those that don’t like rolling about in an anchorage. It is made of strong and durable 5086 aluminum that will withstand the test of time. SeaSuites are built by boatbuilders that are considered the best in British Columbia. It is built to ABYC and Transport Canada standards. Importantly, it is quality built for safe operation and to resist depreciation.
Twin high thrust 9.9hp Yamaha outboards give the SeaSuite a top speed of 6 knots and it pushes quite easily at 5 knots. It is a joy to cruise in as it is quiet and can be controlled from anywhere in the boat with the panther steering remote control. In tight quarters, such as docking, the SeaSuite is operated in reverse with dual action controls in the aft starboard quarter.
Though originally designed with short term vacation rental in mind, the SeaSuite could be an extra guest house on your dock, a weekend in your favorite bay, or with some customization, a great floating office. Want to try somewhere new? With a beam of 11’6 it can be easily trailered long distances with just a wide load permit.
The SeaSuite is designed simply enough to be enjoyed by nautical novices and strong enough to endure years of heavy use.
You just can’t get more boat into 26′. SeaSuite… be on the sea.
